Dominican Republic highlighted for low bureaucratic burden in FIU Report
Miami, Florida.- The Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom at Florida International University (FIU) has released the fifth edition of the Bureaucracy Index 2025, a study that measures the bureaucratic workload faced by medium-sized companies in 21 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe, including the Dominican Republic.
The report highlights the time businesses must dedicate to regulatory procedures, from starting operations to meeting annual obligations. On average, formalizing a medium-sized company requires 1,850 hours—equivalent to 231 workdays or nearly eight months—while annual compliance consumes 1,577 hours, or 190 workdays, representing 76% of an employee’s time.
The Dominican Republic stands out with one of the lowest bureaucratic burdens in the region. While procedures for basic services such as electricity, water, and telecommunications remain a challenge, the country ranks as a regional benchmark for administrative efficiency. These results, according to the OMG Institute, reflect significant progress in simplifying processes and strengthen the nation’s competitiveness as a destination for investment and entrepreneurship.
