Dominican Republic issues Yellow Alert for 10 provinces

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced on Thursday that 10 provinces are now under yellow alert and eight under green alert due to the risk of river and stream overflows, flash flooding, and landslides from a tropical wave with high cyclonic potential.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Onamet), the provinces on yellow alert are Santo Domingo, National District, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, and Monte Plata. Those under green alert include Barahona, San Juan, Azua, San José de Ocoa, Peravia, San Cristóbal, Pedernales, and Sánchez Ramírez.

Authorities also warned of dangerous maritime conditions. Operators of small and medium-sized vessels were urged to exercise caution along the Atlantic coast from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Cabo Francés Viejo (María Trinidad Sánchez), where strong winds are producing hazardous waves.
