Abinader declares official mourning for late economist Guillermo Caram Herrera

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader declared this Friday, September 26, a day of official mourning for the death of Guillermo Caram Herrera, a renowned Dominican economist and politician who held key public offices and played a significant role in the country’s political life. The measure, established under decree 559-25, also orders the Ministry of Defense to provide the appropriate military honors.

Caram Herrera passed away on Thursday, September 25. His public career included serving as Governor of the Central Bank from 1989 to 1990, Technical Secretary to the Presidency in 1986, and Secretary of State for Finance in 1989.

Earlier in his career, in 1968, he was elected alderman of the National District City Council, where he chaired the Public Works and Planning Commission, marking the beginning of decades of public service.
