Cuba seeks to expand bilateral relations with Dominican Republic

Cuba.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed Havana’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding trade with the Dominican Republic during a meeting with his counterpart, Roberto Álvarez, on Thursday amid the United Nations General Assembly sessions. Rodríguez emphasized Cuba’s commitment to deepening economic and commercial ties between the two nations.

The meeting coincided with a virtual round of migration talks between the two countries, conducted in a “professional and cordial” atmosphere, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry. Discussions focused on cooperation in migration and consular matters, including combating human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and other illicit activities linked to irregular migration.

Authorities highlighted that the negotiations reaffirm both countries’ commitment to promoting regular, orderly, and safe migration. The session was led by Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodríguez Perdomo and the Dominican Republic’s Deputy Minister of Consular and Immigration Affairs, Opinio Díaz.
