San José de Ocoa celebrates Dominican culture at 2025 International Hat Festival

San José de Ocoa, D.R.- The fifth edition of the 2025 International Hat Festival and La Maraca Ocoeña Awards transformed San José de Ocoa into a vibrant celebration of Dominican culture, highlighting the province’s identity, creativity, and traditions. The event honored the late Dr. Carmen Isa (Titina), the first female councilor of the province, and Antonio Castillo, a local businessman and former interim mayor, for their contributions to Ocoa’s cultural and economic development.

Held at Villa Hacienda Mariela, the festival gathered residents and visitors for a colorful display of art, fashion, music, and ecotourism. Ocoeño women showcased elegant hats and outfits inspired by their diverse heritage, reflecting the province’s multicultural roots. Founder Betty Pimentel reaffirmed that the festival’s mission is to preserve and promote Ocoa’s traditions, while also recognizing local artisans who have made the Ocoeño hat a symbol of regional pride.

Over 70 exhibitors participated, including artists, producers, and entrepreneurs who promoted local crafts and cuisine. The event also featured the La Maraca Ocoeña Awards, which honored 20 individuals and institutions for their contributions to community development. Musical and fashion performances by national talents and designers such as Maritza Soto, David Atelier, Alba Almonte, and Tony Boga added a touch of elegance to the evening, cementing the festival as one of Ocoa’s most emblematic cultural events.
