Indomet forecasts very hot temperatures and heavy rains in some regions due to Storm Jerry.

For this Saturday, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasts that temperatures will be quite hot, while showers are expected in some areas due to the indirect effects of Tropical Storm Jerry.

The report indicates that isolated showers will occur in the morning hours in provinces near the southern coast of the country, such as La Altagracia, La Romana, and San Pedro de Macorís, among others, associated with the cloudiness carried by the wind towards us.

“In the afternoon, the high moisture content in our air mass, brought by the south/southeast wind induced by Tropical Storm Jerry, will combine with the effects associated with the diurnal cycle, generating increased cloudiness with showers, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts until the early hours of the night, especially in provinces such as: La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata, Samaná, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Espaillat, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Puerto Plata, Valverde, and Santiago Rodríguez, among other provinces.”

On Sunday, the warm and humid wind flow from the southeast will continue to generate cloud cover in the early morning and early afternoon, bringing isolated showers to towns near the southern coast of the country. In contrast, in the afternoon, these conditions will combine with the effects associated with the diurnal cycle, with heavy showers expected in isolated areas, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in the northwestern, southeastern, and southwestern provinces, the Cibao Valley, and the Central Mountain Range until the early evening hours.

Cyclonic activity

Indomet continues to monitor Tropical Storm Jerry, located about 700 km north of the northern Leeward Islands, Lesser Antilles, with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h. It is moving north/northwest at 26 km/h. “Due to its geographical position, we are monitoring the evolution and development of this weather system.”
