Cabarete to host 9th annual Butterfly Effect July 6-8

Cabarete, Dominican Republic.-  The Butterfly Effect will land once again in Cabarete on July 6TH-8TH  2017, encouraging girls and women of all ages to get out on the water and experience a shared camaraderie and unity with other water-women.

The Butterfly Effect is a fun and non-competitive event, and is aiming to instill self-confidence and a love for the ocean in women of all skill levels.

Local and visiting women will gather in Cabarete to complete either a 2km downriver paddle course from Islabon to La Boca or a 5km advanced downwind ride from La Boca to Cabarete Bay. The women will be windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking or stand-up paddling. The event includes a community beach cleanup, safety and stretching sessions, as well as food and gear from local sponsors, and fund-raising for local charities.

The Butterfly Effect began in Hawaii in 2007. Tatiana Howard, the founder of the event, is an avid water woman who enjoys windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, and tow in surfing. This is the 11th year the event has taken place and the 9th year that Cabarete has hosted a Butterfly Effect.

The Butterfly Effect is a worldwide movement hinged on promoting and inspiring women everywhere, to grow together as a community and to use their collective drive to give back to local charities, all while encouraging a healthy lifestyle, a vibrant community, and active local involvement. Since its first event in 2007 on Maui, Hawaii with a dozen women, The Butterfly Effect has evolved into a BE ALOHA World Tour with over 50 different non-competitive events in 19 countries and with thousands of participants.

“Water sports have empowered, and inspired me to live out my hopes and dreams and giving back to surf communities worldwide is a passion I wish to share with many. Never underestimate the power of women to make change! “ Tatiana Howard, founder, The Butterfly Effect.
