Leah Campos appointed U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic

Washington, D.C.- The U.S. Senate has confirmed Leah Francis Campos as the new United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic, according to an announcement by the U.S. Embassy on X.

Campos, who succeeds the previous ambassador, brings extensive experience in security and foreign affairs. A former CIA officer with over a decade of service, she has also worked as an advisor on Western Hemisphere affairs in the U.S. Congress and as a strategic consultant in the private sector for Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

Of Hispanic descent, Campos emphasized during her confirmation hearing that her priorities will include strengthening bilateral relations between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic and addressing the growing influence of external powers in the region.
