Dominican Republic defeats Peru in four sets

Santo Domingo.– Dominican Republic held off a late reaction of Peru and went on to win 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20) for a 2-0 record in Pool B at the XIV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum in Lima, Peru.

The winners committed 30 unforced errors to 33 by the losers and held 6-3 and 3-1 margins in blocks and aces, respectively.

"This match helped us to continue getting playing rhythm and for those players who were out because of injuries keep adapting to the ball. Now we have to think about tomorrow’s match," said Prisilla Rivera, captain of Dominican Republic.

Dominican coach Marcos Kwiek showed satisfaction for the victory and added: "It is another step towards the qualification that we are looking for, and today we gave a little more work to the players coming back from injuries. We were able to take advantage from Peru’s mistakes and now we have to focus on tomorrow’s match, the most important in the world for us."

The Dominican Republic will face Cuba (2-0) on Monday.
