Aerodom aims to bring the giant A380 to Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata – With the hotel development thatPuerto Plata will experience after the implementation of the Punta Bergantín tourism project, the aeronautical sector must be prepared to add and offer visitors new flight options since, within the master plan, there is a strategy to create a fund to add eight weekly flights to the Gregorio Luperón airport.
With this, Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) has the vision of bringing the giant A380, the world’s largest airliner, to the Bride of the Atlantic.
This was reported to arecoa.com by Carlos Rodoli, director of Aerodom Norte, who emphasized that for the concessionaire to work on the repositioning of the terminal is paramount, in addition to the remodeling work, to work on adding more flights in the fall.
“We are working on bringing the largest aircraft in the world, an A380 that can reach the destination. We are making the arrangements to get the proposal and the destination sold,” he said.
He indicated that there is no definite date for this, but the intention is to end 2024 with a higher passenger traffic number than in 2023.
“Last year 2023 the terminal received 736 thousand passengers and this year in the first six months 600 thousand passengers, that is 81% of the previous year”, he added.
Rodoli said that to surpass the figures they have new proposals and projections of flights such as Delta that will connect Atlanta with Barbados and Puerto Plata, starting November 23; there is also intends to Arajet will start flights from the terminal to South America.
“Puerto Plata has been the fastest growing destination with 25% more than last 2023 and we have a good projection with airlines to close the year with a significant increase in operations and visitor arrivals,” he said.
