BiggerTourism Minister outlines challenges and goals for 2025
Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado highlighted key challenges the sector will face in 2025 to reach the goal of 12 million visitors. These include increasing hotel room capacity, enhancing security, and leveraging the Open Skies agreement to boost air connectivity and reduce ticket prices.
Collado explained that the Open Skies agreement will enable more airlines to fly to the Dominican Republic, allowing local carriers like Arajet and SkyHigh to expand routes to the United States and offer lower-priced tickets. He pointed out that while a flight from Texas to the Dominican Republic can cost $6,000, a similar trip to Mexico costs under $2,000.
The minister also emphasized ongoing efforts to improve tourist safety, aiming to make the country even more attractive to international visitors. He shared these insights as the country celebrated receiving its 11 millionth visitor in 2024, surpassing its target and setting the stage for continued growth.

I just did a random search from Houston…non stop with United in January. The price is $695. The graph states “this price is typical”.
I guess if you flew personally with NetJets it could cost $6000, but then again, that is a whole other snack bracket.
I really do hope that the roads of Bavaro will be capable of transporting those millions to the resorts safely, which is presently NOT THE CASE.
You forgot there is life outside the airport and the resort walls.
Next time you greet the 11 millionth visitor, why not do it on the streets of Bavaro after it rains?
