Spirit will link Punta Cana with Baltimore and Washington

Spirit Airlines has reported that it will launch in the next three months a new air route that will offer direct flights from Punta Cana to Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

The new link would shorten the distances between the main tourist destination in the eastern region of the country and two of the most important destinations on the east coast of the North American giant, a region in which there is little direct connectivity.

The nonstop flight will begin on March 20 of this year and will operate four times a week, traveling from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI).

“Punta Cana is a great destination for travelers looking to enjoy beautiful beaches and many activities and attractions,” Spirit Airlines Vice President of Network Planning John Kirby said in a statement.

“We look forward to launching this new route and making it easier for U.S. travelers to discover Punta Cana, and for our guests from the Dominican Republic to visit the U.S. capital,” he added.

With the announcement, Spirit Airlines would be offering the second direct flight from Punta Cana to Baltimore-Washington Airport, traveling a route that, until now, was only offered by Southwest Airlines.
