Mitur disburses 82 million pesos to boost tourism in Santiago

Santiago — The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), headed by Minister David Collado, disbursed the first contribution of RD$ 82 million for the execution of the projects contemplated in the agreement signed between the Santiago Tourist Destination Cluster, with the support of the seven business institutions that make up Compromiso Santiago with the entity.
This disbursement, made prior to FITUR 2025 in Madrid, represents a significant step towards consolidating Santiago as a competitive tourist destination at the national and international levels.
Over the past 11 years, the Tourism Cluster has worked tirelessly to implement 80% of its tourism strategy designed for the year 2025. Minister Collado’s commitment has been fundamental in completing the remaining 20%, demonstrating his vision and support for sustainable tourism development in the DR.
The projects presented to Mitur were accepted in their entirety, marking a milestone in Santiago’s history of tourism development.
“This first disbursement is in line with the important public investment that the government has been executing in Santiago and is an act of trust and commitment to the economic and cultural growth of this Heart City. Never before has a tourism development project of this magnitude been undertaken in our city,” stated the Santiago Destino Turístico Cluster, Ramón Paulino president.
According to a press release, he indicated that “this economic support budgeted at 290 million pesos ratifies the will of the Government to turn Santiago into a tourist pole of international relevance.”
In the last year, Santiago has experienced remarkable tourist growth. More than 570 new hotel rooms have been added, which to date have received tremendous support, managed by prestigious international chains, strengthening the city’s tourist offer. In addition, for the first time, thanks to the vision of Mayor Ulises Rodriguez, a Municipal Department of Tourism was created, consolidating the sector’s importance within the local government structure.
Governor Rosa Santos has also played a key role in creating a Tourist Safety Board from the Provincial Government to guarantee a safe environment for national and international visitors. For his part, the senator from Santiago, Daniel Rivera, has incorporated the development of health tourism into his legislative agenda, generating new opportunities to diversify the region’s tourism offer.
The transformation is reflected in the initiatives already underway to promote convention and event tourism and ecotourism, taking advantage of Santiago’s natural and cultural wealth. These actions consolidate the city’s positioning as an integral destination that combines history, nature, business, and health.
The Cluster reiterated its commitment to continue working jointly with local and national authorities, the private sector, and civil society to complete the projects that will transform Santiago into an exceptional tourist destination.
With historical support, Santiago is emerging as a city that attracts not only tourists but also important investors and generates a highly positive impact on the local and national economies.
