Government shifts Convention Center Project to former Santo Domingo Hotel

Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado announced that the government has abandoned plans to build the Santo Domingo Convention Center on the property of the former Hotel Hispaniola due to ownership disputes. The site had been declared of public utility under decree 296-22, but legal complications led to a change in location.

The government is now negotiating with Central Romana for the partial purchase of the land where the old Hotel Santo Domingo stood, at the intersection of George Washington Avenue and Abraham Lincoln. The new project, advised by IFEMA—organizer of Fitur—will utilize 34,000 of the available 62,000 square meters due to cost considerations.
