Bogotá.- In a bid to further boost the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry, Tourism Minister David Collado called on Colombians to continue choosing the Caribbean nation as their top vacation destination on the eve of the Vitrina de ANATO fair, which starts this Wednesday.
Last year, the Dominican Republic welcomed 336,000 Colombian tourists, making Colombia the third-largest source market for Dominican tourism with a 9.9% year-on-year growth.
These figures translated into significant economic benefits for the country—generating 25,000 jobs, 1.9 billion pesos in tax revenue, 800 million dollars in added GDP value, and the construction of 2,400 new hotel rooms. “When we see those statistics, we have more than enough reasons to be here and to participate in the ANATO Vitrina. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Colombia,” Collado stated upon his arrival in Bogotá.
Ahead of the fair, Collado is also conducting a roadshow with over 300 travel agents, tour operators, airline representatives, and other industry stakeholders. During the roadshow, he showcased the Dominican Republic’s unique offerings—its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant gastronomy, and rich artistic heritage—which contributed to over 11.3 million visitors to the country last year.
The Vitrina de ANATO fair is expected to further solidify the Dominican Republic’s reputation as a premier tourist destination, reinforcing its economic impact and sustained growth in the region.
