Cabo Rojo airport to boost luxury tourism and private aviation

Pedernales.- Víctor Pichardo, director of the Airport Department, highlighted the Cabo Rojo International Airport’s potential to transform tourism in Pedernales by attracting both commercial flights and private aviation. Speaking at the “Tourism and Attractions 2025” fair, he noted that over 40,000 private aircraft fly over the Caribbean annually, generating more than US$400 million. The new terminal will position the Dominican Republic as a key hub for high-end tourism, attracting investors and business leaders.

As part of this strategy, the government is modernizing domestic airports, including the El Granero del Sur Airport in San Juan, to improve regional connectivity. Additionally, initiatives like the National Heliport Network and the Non-Commercial Private Aviation Protocol aim to enhance infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.

I’m trying to wrap my head around where this rendering’s supposed to be exactly? The future Pedernales airport I thought was supposed to be all the way over by the western side of Ovideo. (landlocked)
This rendering has a marina. Is the water in the background suppose to represent Laguna Ovideo??? No way anything can be built on that narrow strip of land, no? (less even an airport)
