Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Dominican Republic has approved a bill declaring La Romana an ecotourism province, an initiative led by Senator Eduard Espiritusanto. The legislation seeks to boost alternative tourism focused on economic sustainability, social equity, cultural enrichment, and environmental protection across the region.
With this new status, La Romana will benefit from an annual RD$50 million Ecotourism Development Fund to support projects that foster both environmental and economic progress. These initiatives will be overseen by the newly created La Romana Ecotourism Development Council, an autonomous body tasked with establishing public policy and promoting sustainable investment throughout the province.
There is no such thing as Eco tourism LOL, or Eco tourism where the trash end up just over the fence on the empty neighbors property.
The difference between tourism of years past and the present is tourism is now prefixed with “eco”.
