Dominican President, Tourism Minister unveil $80 million Viva Miches by Wyndham resort

Miches, El Seibo, DR.- President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado officially opened Viva Miches by Wyndham on Thursday, a beachfront resort with 538 rooms and a total investment exceeding $80 million. Located on Playa Esmeralda, the new complex is expected to boost the regional economy by creating 2,400 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect positions.

“This marks Miches’ rise as a premier tourist destination,” President Abinader said, highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration. “Working together—private sector and public sector—we create wealth and new opportunities.” Minister Collado called the inauguration “definitive proof of Miches’ takeoff,” praising the partnership that brought this project to life.

Ettore Colussi, founder of Viva Resorts by Wyndham, noted that the company’s pioneering spirit led it from Bayahibe to Miches. “We promise to deliver the best in beachside luxury and Dominican hospitality,” he said. He also described Viva Miches as a “living ambassador” of Dominican culture, linking local traditions to Wyndham’s global network.

Designed by Simples Arquitectura with a focus on sustainability, the resort features five restaurants serving international cuisine, extensive entertainment areas, and an all-inclusive model. Guests can enjoy themed events—including beach parties, neon nights, and live DJs—under the Viva Vibe program.

A second phase will expand the property to 750 rooms, raising the total investment to $130 million. This expansion aligns with regional infrastructure improvements—such as new roads and utilities—aimed at enhancing connectivity and services for Miches.

Viva Miches is committed to environmental stewardship through Wyndham’s Green program, which includes energy-efficient systems, reduced plastic use, water management, and renewable energy integration. The resort also partners with local conservation efforts like Promiches, focused on sustainable development, and Protortuga, a marine turtle protection initiative. Collaborations with Miches’ artisans aim to support local crafts and the economy.

“Inaugurating Viva Miches by Wyndham fills us with gratitude and optimism,” Colussi said. “Here on Playa Esmeralda, guests will witness breathtaking views and authentic Dominican warmth. We offer a new destination where natural beauty, sustainability, and hospitality converge.”

With its prime location, upscale amenities, and community engagement, Viva Miches by Wyndham positions itself as an eco-conscious gateway for travelers. As President Abinader and Minister Collado indicated, the resort showcases Miches’ potential and introduces one of the Dominican Republic’s most promising coastal gems to the world.
