Tourism Minister inaugurates renovated Plaza Canito in Guayacanes

San Pedro de Macorís.- Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the newly reconstructed Plaza Marcelino Marte, popularly known as Canito Park, in Guayacanes, San Pedro de Macorís. The project, a long-awaited community request, was completed with an investment of over RD$32 million.
Spanning 4,028 square meters, the renovated space includes a 1,362-square-meter cobblestone walkway around the park’s perimeter and a 1,146-square-meter plaza. The improvements transform the area into a modern, welcoming recreational hub for both locals and visitors.
“This park is a symbol of the community, and its reconstruction fulfills a longstanding promise. Projects like this one directly benefit the community and contribute to tourism development,” Collado said during the ceremony.
The project features a fully refurbished basketball court, new spectator stands, resurfacing, and a sports lighting system. It also includes 580 square meters of new sidewalks, 468 linear meters of curbs, urban furniture, landscaping, signage, universal access ramps, and improved lighting.
The initiative was carried out by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), enhancing Guayacanes’ appeal as a destination. Known for its popular beaches—Guayacanes I and II, Caribe, and Juan Dolio—the municipality also offers hotels, restaurants, golf courses, and family-friendly attractions, making it a prime location for living or vacationing.
