The Domes and Serranía nurture hope for young women in Jarabacoa

Jarabacoa, DR.- Boutique mountain lodge The Domes Jarabacoa has signed a partnership with the Serranía Hotel Technical School to expand educational and economic opportunities for young women in the local community. Under the agreement, The Domes will fund a renewable scholarship covering the two‑year program in culinary arts, restaurant service, housekeeping, bakery and pastry, ensuring one student gains full vocational training each cycle.

Founded over 15 years ago, Serranía has earned a reputation for empowering women from vulnerable backgrounds. “We admire the school’s dedication,” said Johan González, founder and owner of The Domes Jarabacoa. “Investing in local talent elevates Jarabacoa as a boutique mountain destination.” As part of the deal, The Domes will also purchase Serranía’s artisanal products—croissants, marmalades, breads and pastries—helping the school reach discerning tourism guests while boosting its financial stability.

The pact further includes support for Serranía’s planned NGO and the placement of student interns at The Domes, where they will assist in daily operations and collaborate on the menu for a new bistro restaurant. “This alliance lets our students train in a high‑level professional environment,” said Serranía director Yocelin García.

The agreement was signed on the opening day of Serranía’s Culinary Week 2025, attended by over 100 guests and capped by a master class on sustainable cooking. The annual event (July 23–25) promotes environmental, social and economic balance in gastronomy.

Nestled amid Jarabacoa’s rivers and mountain peaks, The Domes Jarabacoa offers geodesic luxury domes just minutes from local attractions. Serranía, operated by non‑profit INDESCO since 1987, provides women aged 16–22 from low‑income families with vocational hospitality training, cementing both institutions as catalysts for social and economic development in the region.
