Collado inaugurates Duarte Park and Las Mercedes Street in Colonial City

Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the renovated Juan Pablo Duarte Park and reopened Las Mercedes Street in Santo Domingo’s Colonial City, as part of a US$90 million revitalization program supported by the Inter-American Development Bank. The initiative aims to preserve the area’s historical value while improving public spaces for residents and tourists.

Duarte Park received upgrades such as new lighting, landscaping, accessible paving, and signage. Las Mercedes Street was redesigned into a pedestrian-friendly space with improved pavement, water and drainage systems, and tactile signage for the visually impaired. Electrical and telecom lines will be installed underground.

These projects are part of the “Prioritized Streets” initiative, which is restoring 4.7 km of streets in the Colonial City, including infrastructure upgrades, mobility improvements, and waste management enhancements.
