Punta Bergantín unveils four new hotels to integrate communities into local tourism development
Puerto Plata, DR.- The Punta Bergantín Public–Private Trust presented plans this week for four new hotels intended to expand the project’s reach while actively involving surrounding communities in the economic and social benefits of the growing tourism sector on the northern coast.
During a public meeting at Montellano’s town hall with residents, local leaders, civil society representatives and regional media, Trust director Andrés Marranzini shared details of the new developments, including their official environmental impact filings. The upcoming hotels are Jardines del Ámbar Bergantín (Code S01-24-05406), Vista del Atlántico Bergantín (S01-24-05408), Valle Esmeralda Bergantín (S01-24-05407) and Costa Dorada Bergantín (S01-24-05405).
Marranzini emphasized that all four hotels were conceived with strict respect for the environment and a commitment to community integration. He noted that the people of Montellano are not mere bystanders, but central to the vision behind the project. “Sharing this information is fundamental to our commitment to local identity,” he said. “Montellano is the raw material of these initiatives. This project cannot exist without its people, its culture, and its history.”
The Punta Bergantín project, which has received financial backing from Banco de Reservas since its announcement at the FITUR international tourism fair in 2023, continues to grow steadily. Earlier in 2024, the Trust confirmed the construction of two major resorts under the Hyatt brand—Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara—with a combined investment of US$200 million. Though catering to different market segments, both will be operated by Hyatt and are being developed by Spain’s Grupo Martinón.
In addition to the Hyatt properties, the project includes a hotel from the Inclusive Collection by Hyatt and another by Meliá Hotels International, the latter in partnership with Grupo Puntacana. Agreements have also been signed with Grupo Velutini and Grupo Humano to develop a Westin hotel, and with the operator ITM for a large-scale theme park.
According to the Trust, the decision to publicly present each new initiative to the community reflects its broader commitment to transparency, civic participation and cultural respect.
