Collado announces record 863,000 air arrivals to Dominican Republic in July
Santo Domingo.- Tourism in the Dominican Republic hit a historic milestone in July, welcoming 863,000 air visitors, the highest monthly total ever recorded, Tourism Minister David Collado reported. He noted that before 2019, the country had never surpassed 700,000 visitors in a single month, emphasizing that the new terminal at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) was a key factor in accommodating this growth.
Collado highlighted the role of the open skies agreement with the United States, reached under the current PRM government, in boosting air connectivity—a major challenge for Dominican tourism. He also noted the growing importance of other markets, with Argentine and Colombian tourists now ranking as the country’s third and fourth largest sources of visitors, thanks to improved flight connections.
The announcement coincided with the launch of the new passenger terminal construction project at AILA, carried out by Aerodom, part of the VINCI Airports network, and attended by President Luis Abinader.
