Collado: Dominican Republic welcomed record 863,000 air tourists in July

Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado reported that Dominican tourism reached a record high in July with the arrival of 863,000 air visitors, consolidating its position as the best month in the history of the sector.

“July was the best month in the history of tourism in the Dominican Republic. 863,000 tourists arrived by air, an unprecedented record. This country, before 2019 onwards, had never reached 700,000, and already in the summer we’re reaching 863,000. This was what was needed: a new terminal,” he said.

Collado highlighted that the open skies agreement with the United States was reached during the PRM Government, noting that “the main challenge facing Dominican tourism is air connectivity.”

“Now that airlines are flying to American soil, we’re experiencing the best period for tourism in the Dominican Republic,” he added.

The official also highlighted the joint work between the private and public sectors to boost the country’s connectivity. “The country’s third most important market right now is Argentine tourism, and Colombia’s fourth, and that was due to air connectivity,” he explained.

These statements were offered during the event in which Aerodom, a member company of the VINCI Airports global network, began the construction project of a new passenger terminal at Las Américas International Airport (AILA), headed by President Luis Abinader, according to RCN.

DR tourism benefits hotel owners and undocumented Haitian workers they hire. They intentionally leave Dominican workers out.

Not true. How about all the restaurants and shops that are Dominican-owned?
