Puerto Plata tourism cluster, DIGESETT partner for road safety
Puerto Plata, DR.- Aiming to improve traffic and road safety in this tourist destination, the Puerto Plata Tourist Destination Cluster is collaborating with the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) to host a series of road safety and defensive driving workshops for local tourism companies, associations, and unions.
The training sessions have already taken place at several hotels, including Ocean World, Senator, Gran Ventana, Marien Puerto Plata, and Blue JackTar. Hundreds of employees from member companies of the Cluster, the Northern Association of Hotels, Restaurants, and Tourism Companies (ASHONORTE), the Playa Dorada Hotels Association, and local drivers’ unions have participated in the workshops.

As part of the initiative, the head of DIGESETT, General Pascual Cruz Méndez, visited the destination to supervise the training, meet with different sectors, and follow up on measures to improve traffic flow in the province. General Cruz Méndez reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to promoting prevention, prudence, and respect for traffic laws. He stated that DIGESETT would continue its joint actions in Puerto Plata, with the initiatives now under the direct responsibility of the regional team led by Lieutenant Colonel Julio César Rodríguez.
Birgitt Heinsen, president of the Tourist Cluster, thanked DIGESETT for its support, noting that “road safety is an essential aspect of tourism sustainability.” She added that the private sector is committed to contributing initiatives that strengthen mobility and safety in the destination. Likewise, César José de los Santos, president of the Playa Dorada Hotels and Condominiums Association, praised the joint effort and DIGESETT’s work in Puerto Plata.
