Southern Cone countries lead Dominican tourism in 2025, says Collado

Santo Domingo.- Tourism Minister David Collado highlighted that his administration has actively managed tourism, implementing transparent strategies that have successfully restored arrivals. According to the Ministry’s Tourism Intelligence System (SITUR), efforts focused on boosting visitors from Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean have yielded strong results, particularly from Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.

“The Southern Cone—Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and southern Brazil—has been the mainstay of Dominican tourism in 2025,” Collado said during a Listín Diario Breakfast, where he was joined by Vice Minister Patricia Mejía and other MITUR officials.

Collado noted that SITUR data allowed authorities to anticipate risks, such as the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on European tourism, while increasing focus on Canada and Latin America. Argentina now ranks third among countries sending tourists to the Dominican Republic, with nearly 500,000 visitors, while Chile sees more than 160,000 arrivals annually. Brazil has grown by 26%, and Colombia contributes over 400,000 tourists.

In addition, MITUR’s aviation strategy has improved airline competitiveness and lowered ticket prices. Collado highlighted the role of Arajet, which has carried over 350,000 tourists from Latin America and now operates more than 30 flights to Argentina alone. The minister emphasized that Argentine tourists tend to stay longer due to the long-haul nature of their trips, further benefiting the local tourism economy.
