La Romana-Bayahíbe declared Dominican Republic’s first accessible tourist destination
Santo Domingo.- La Romana-Bayahíbe has been officially declared the Dominican Republic’s first accessible and inclusive tourist destination, following a ceremony led by Tourism Minister David Collado. This milestone was achieved through an innovative public-private partnership involving the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), the La Romana Bayahibe Hotel Association (AHRB), and the La Romana Bayahibe Tourism Cluster (CTRB), with technical support from the Open Doors Organization and Travegali.
The agreement, signed by Minister Collado and private-sector leaders Andrés Fernández and Rafael Blanco, sets a new standard for universal accessibility in the national tourism industry. Collado emphasized that the initiative goes beyond regulatory compliance, ensuring that beaches like Bayahibe and Dominicus meet international Blue Flag standards and allow everyone to fully enjoy the destination.
Covering the La Romana area from the Soco River to Boca de Yuma, the program reinforces the Dominican Republic’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive tourism, establishing the destination as a model for other regions in the country.
