Minister David Collado launches reconstruction projects in Higüey

Higüey.- Minister of Tourism David Collado began reconstruction work on La Mujer Park (Obelisk) and the sidewalks and curbs surrounding the Basilica of Our Lady of La Altagracia on Monday, as part of efforts to strengthen and diversify tourism in La Altagracia province. The projects represent a total investment of RD$33,268,314 and aim to beautify key public spaces visited by thousands of parishioners and tourists.

Minister Collado emphasized that small-scale interventions in public spaces can significantly enhance the surrounding environment, even at religious sites like the Higüey Basilica. “The restoration of public spaces and the beautification of their surroundings make a difference. It truly adds value to places as special as the Basilica of Higüey,” he said.

The La Mujer Park (Obelisk) project, with an investment of RD$7,687,803, covers 455.32 square meters and includes restoration of the obelisk, concrete and synthetic wood walkways, planters, stairs, ramps, benches, lighting, and urban tree planting. The sidewalk and curb reconstruction around the Basilica is a 505-square-meter project costing RD$25,580,511. It covers 259 meters of the north sidewalk and 246 meters of the south sidewalk, including cobblestone restoration, accessibility ramps, street lighting, planters, urban planting, and installation of trash cans.
