Aerodom responds to the effects of Storm Melissa: “So far, no flights have been canceled”

Santo Domingo.- In light of Storm Melissa passing through the Dominican Republic, scheduled flights at the terminals operated by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) are operating normally this Sunday, October 26.

This was reported to arecoa.com by Aerodom Communications Director  Luis José López, who reiterated: “So far, no flights have been canceled; everything is normal.”

He added that “everything is operating normally; scheduled flights have been operating without any disruption.”

He also said that if any eventuality were to occur, the concessionaire would inform its terminal users through various channels.

He recalled that Aerodom activated the Emergency Plan applicable to this case, and teams at all airports have taken preventive measures to ensure the safety and continuity of operations.

Tropical Storm  Melissa continues its slow but steady path past the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and has become a Category 4 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 113–136 knots (130–156 mph, 209–251 km/h), causing intense downpours, thunderstorms, flooding, and mudslides, experts from the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned.

Experts indicated that the storm’s structure has begun to reorganize following a decrease in upper-level winds that had been limiting its movement, which could allow the low- and mid-level centers to align and strengthen the system. Melissa is predicted to reach Category 5 when it makes landfall on Jamaica on Monday or Tuesday.
