Cruise tourism: Puerto Plata surpasses 1.9 million visitors through September

Puerto Plata.– The Amber Cove maritime terminals, located in Maimón and Taíno Bay, in the bay of Puerto Plata, have received one million nine hundred thousand (1.9 million) cruise passengers until September 2025, consolidating the province as the leading cruise destination in the Dominican Caribbean.

According to data from port and tourism sector authorities, the figure reflects a solid performance in the arrival of maritime excursionists, despite a slight slowdown in growth during the final months of the year.

It was recalled that in 2024, both terminals received a total of 2.6 million passengers, and that by 2025, the projected number of passengers is between 2.6 and 2.7 million, which would maintain the record levels recorded the previous year.

“The numbers regarding the arrival of seaside excursionists will be very close to past figures. They won’t be far off, perhaps a 4% difference, because growth in recent months hasn’t been very strong,” said a source close to the sector.

The Amber Cove (operated by Carnival Corporation) and Taíno Bay (under the ITM group) terminals continue to be fundamental pillars in the recovery and revitalization of the northern region’s tourism economy, generating direct and indirect jobs and significant revenue for the province.

Puerto Plata, known as “The Bride of the Atlantic,” continues to strengthen its position as one of the most attractive cruise destinations in the Caribbean, thanks to its beaches, excursions, port infrastructure, and the warmth of its people.
