Dominican Republic projects record 11.7 million tourists in 2025

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is on track to welcome a record 11.7 million visitors in 2025, reaffirming its position as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Tourism Minister David Collado highlighted that the country continues to achieve historic growth despite recent storms and air travel disruptions in the United States.

By October, the nation had already received more than nine million visitors, including 2.1 million cruise passengers, surpassing last year’s total of 11.19 million tourists. Collado emphasized that these figures were reached without arrivals from Russia and Ukraine, which previously accounted for about 500,000 tourists annually.

President Luis Abinader announced that he will represent the country at the Madrid Tourism Fair (FITUR) in January 2026, where the Dominican Republic will promote Pedernales as the next major tourism hub—envisioned as a “second Punta Cana.” Abinader also noted that 99.1% of visitors respect national laws, while the government continues its efforts to eliminate illegal activities, including child exploitation, particularly in areas like Sosúa, ensuring tourism remains safe and sustainable.
