October begins with bloodshed: seven violent events that shock society

Multiple violent incidents have marked the first few days of October in the Dominican Republic, some of them linked to gangs and social conflicts, which have caused concern and alarm among citizens.

Shooting leaves two dead and three wounded in Santiago

On the morning of Monday, October 6, a shooting during an illegal party or “teteo” on the corner of Anacaona and Duarte streets in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood of Santiago de los Caballeros claimed the lives of two people and left three wounded.

According to the preliminary report, the fatalities were identified as Scotti Manuel Tejada Francisco (a.k.a. Escori), 23, and Jasson Alexander de los Santos Batista (a.k.a. El Capi), 20, who were hanging out on the aforementioned street when the assailants, riding motorcycles, opened fire on them without saying a word.

The injured are Juan Antonio Toribio Martínez, 57; Elistha Heridenia Almonte, 19; and Russell Arath Núñez, 24, who are receiving medical attention at different health centers.

The police are searching for five individuals identified as Yudelfry Arias (a.k.a. Cara de Bola), Bujía, Yasel, Andy, Edwin, and El Siete.

Young man killed after leaving Christian service

That same day, but at night, a young man was shot and killed by two individuals while riding with his wife on a motorcycle after leaving a Christian service on Ecológica Avenue in Santo Domingo Este.

The deceased was identified as Miguel Ángel Coronado, 23.

Coronado was shot in the lung, but the attackers did not steal any of his belongings or the vehicle he was traveling in.

The killers leave behind an orphaned three-year-old child.

Two brothers murdered

Meanwhile, on the night of Tuesday, July 7, two brothers were shot and killed by unknown assailants while riding a motorcycle in the San José Afuera sector of the municipality of Baitoa, in Santiago.

The deceased were identified as Robert Alexander Minier Sandoval, 38, and Freddy Minier Sandoval, 39, both residents of kilometer 6 of the sector above.

During the processing of the scene, the Scientific Police collected thirteen 9mm-caliber shell casings. They documented the motorcycle involved, an Agri Z, which was red in color and lacked a license plate.

The National Police reported that, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it is deepening its investigation into the events that occurred, with the aim of identifying the attackers, clarifying the circumstances, and bringing those responsible to justice.

Body of Modesto Marmolejos was found

On Wednesday, October 8, the body of Modesto Marmolejos del Rosario was found. He had been reported missing since Saturday, October 4, by his relatives in the Cienfuegos sector, Santiago Oeste municipal district.

According to reports, the body, which was allegedly bound hand and foot, was found in the Ulises Francisco Espaillat irrigation canal, located in the Jicomé municipal district, Valverde province.

“We came here based on information from our sources. They sent us video and images when the body was coming down, allegedly bound hand and foot. When I turned around in Jicomé, I lost my way looking for it, but I found it here all by itself. Apparently, some good Samaritans had already removed it from the water,” said one of the family members.

For his part, National Police spokesman Colonel Diego Pesqueira reported on Thursday that investigations into this case are continuing.

Man takes the life of his ex-partner

Meanwhile, in the province of Hato Mayor, a Haitian man killed his ex-partner.

The victim is 42-year-old Moselene Lorence, whose body was found in some bushes in the La Piñita sector of the El Valle municipality on Tuesday, July 7. The alleged murderer, 45-year-old Arnold Volcy, was arrested by the National Police.

A bag, two cell phones of different brands, and a charger were seized from the detainee.

Arnold Volcy was handed over to the competent authorities for the corresponding legal proceedings.

Charred human remains found

Added to the list of crimes on the night of Thursday, October 9, was the discovery of charred human remains, believed to be those of Ms. Lisset Melenciano Tejada, who was reported missing on October 5, 2025, in this province.

The discovery was made during a search and investigation operation carried out today at the residence of the missing woman, located in the Kilómetro 3½ sector, in the municipality of San Cristóbal.

During the technical inspection of the scene, investigators, along with representatives from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, identified an area of disturbed earth on a plot of land in front of the house. After excavating the site, a hole was found partially covered with branches and traces of fuel (diesel), where bone fragments and charred remains with characteristics compatible with human tissue were found.

The evidence collected was packaged, labeled, and removed in accordance with chain of custody protocols and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for scientific and anthropological analysis, to confirm the victim’s identity and determine the causes and circumstances of the incident.

The National Police is continuing its investigation in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office to further the lines of inquiry that will lead to the identification and capture of those responsible for this unfortunate event.

The law enforcement agency reiterates its unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and public safety, ensuring strict compliance with legal and technical procedures at every stage of the investigative process.
