Philipsburg, St. Maarten.– The three Syrians detained in St. Maarten for traveling with fake Greek passports had traveled from Europe and stopped in Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Haiti before entering the Dutch Caribbean island, AP reported today.
According to the report, the public prosecutor’s office said Saturday that the Syrians were detained Nov. 14 and are still investigated. They have not asked for asylum, but officials do not believe the Syrians are tied to any terrorist groups.
Spokesman Norman Serphos told The Associated Press that the three men came on an Insel Air flight from Haiti. It is unclear where they were headed and no further details were available, according to AP.
