Guatemala and Dominican Republic to celebrate Larimar Fair

Guatemala.- The Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Embassy and the Guatemalan-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, is hosting the Larimar Fair in Antigua Guatemala from October 2 to 6. This event aims to strengthen bilateral relations and promote business opportunities between the two countries as they celebrate 173 years of diplomatic ties. The fair will feature a mix of networking, cultural, and gastronomic activities.

A diverse delegation from the Dominican Republic, including government officials, business leaders, artisans, and jewelers, will visit Guatemala to engage in collaboration and commercial exchanges with local counterparts. Dominican Ambassador to Guatemala, Sara Paulino, highlighted that the fair will include conferences led by tourism experts and a special evening showcasing “Dominican aromas and flavors,” featuring local cigars and rum.

Ambassador Paulino also noted the participation of artisans displaying larimar, a semi-precious stone unique to the Dominican Republic. CIG President Raúl Bouscayrol emphasized the strong economic ties between the nations, with trade reaching $253 million last year and over $155 million in exports to the Dominican Republic this year. The fair will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DR-CAFTA Free Trade Agreement, which has further bolstered trade relations. Both leaders expressed their commitment to promoting ongoing joint activities to foster economic development in both countries.
