U.S. calls Open Skies Agreement with Dominican Republic a key aviation advance
Washington.- The U.S.-Dominican Republic Open Skies agreement, effective as of Thursday, marks a significant milestone in the liberalization of civil aviation in the Western Hemisphere. The U.S. State Department emphasized that the agreement establishes a modern aviation framework, promoting unrestricted service capacity, open route rights, liberal chartering, expanded cargo rights, and code-sharing opportunities.
President Luis Abinader celebrated the agreement, highlighting its potential to boost the Dominican economy by enhancing international connectivity and attracting investments. The U.S. government noted that the pact strengthens economic and trade partnerships, fosters people-to-people ties, and creates opportunities for airlines, travel companies, and consumers.
Signed in August, the agreement is expected to offer more affordable and efficient air services, stimulate job creation, and drive economic growth. As the Dominican Republic’s largest trading partner, the U.S. sees this initiative as a step forward in advancing mutual economic interests and improving aviation standards.
