Dominican Embassy honors Juan Pablo Duarte in Jamaica

Jamaica.- The Dominican Embassy in Jamaica, led by Ambassador Angie Martínez, commemorated the Father of the Nation, Juan Pablo Duarte, through a series of unprecedented patriotic events. These acts marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica and included the unveiling of the first bust of Duarte in Jamaica, the establishment of a local branch of the Duartiano Institute, and a keynote lecture by its president, Dr. Wilson Gómez Ramírez, titled “Duarte, the Constitution, and the National Symbols.”

The unveiling ceremony at the Dominican Republic’s Official Residence in Kingston featured the raising of the Dominican flag by Jamaican Defence Forces officers and the national anthem. Ambassador Martínez and Dr. Gómez led a solemn tribute, including a floral wreath-laying and the unveiling of Duarte’s sculpture. The event was attended by diplomats, international representatives, local authorities, and members of the Dominican community in Jamaica.

Ambassador Martínez highlighted the historical significance of bringing Duarte’s ideals to Jamaican soil, emphasizing the event as a milestone in bilateral relations and a reinforcement of Dominican identity abroad. Dr. Gómez praised the establishment of a Duartiano presence in Jamaica, enabling ongoing tributes to Dominican heritage. The ceremony concluded with the swearing-in of the first board of the Duartiano Institute’s Jamaica branch, aimed at promoting Duarte’s legacy among the Dominican diaspora.
