Alfonso Rodriguez highlights the plight of Dominicans affected by Los Angeles fires

Los Angeles, California.- Dominican filmmaker and Consul Alfonso Rodríguez, based in Los Angeles, shared the challenges faced by Dominicans affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern California. In a virtual interview with journalist Alicia Ortega, he described the plight of a Dominican mother with three daughters, one of whom requires specialized medical equipment, who was forced to leave her home. With nearby hotels full, the family had to relocate to San Diego in search of shelter.

Rodríguez emphasized that many other Dominicans are also struggling, turning to the consulate for help and shelter. He highlighted the desperation and lack of options as the fires displace thousands.

The wildfires have forced over 90,000 evacuations and destroyed more than a thousand homes. Local authorities have urged residents to stay put unless ordered to evacuate, warning of increased risks in uncontrolled areas. As the crisis unfolds, Dominicans in the region continue to face uncertainty and seek assistance.
