Guatemalan authorities seize marijuana shipment bound for Dominican Republic

Guatemala.- Guatemalan security forces intercepted a shipment of 900 pounds of marijuana on Tuesday at the Santo Tomás de Castilla commercial port in Puerto Barrios, Izabal province, on the country’s Atlantic coast. The National Civil Police (PNC) reported that the drugs, hidden in 30 cardboard boxes labeled as electronic spare parts, were allegedly destined for the Dominican Republic.
The marijuana was discovered during routine inspections using scanning equipment and is valued at approximately US$390,000, or three million quetzales. Each box contained about 30 pounds of the drug.
This latest seizure follows a significant bust on May 1, when Dominican authorities confiscated over 6,700 pounds of marijuana also traced back to Guatemala — the largest such seizure in the Caribbean nation’s history.
why bother? Just legalize it, tax it and quit wasting government resources over weed.
Listen,
weed has never destroyed a persons life. Alcohol has. Many. Narcotics do. Let’s stop making things illegal that grow in the literal ground and don’t require a ton of chemical additives post production. Making people criminals for smoking a plant is insane. You can control it, tax it, standardize it sure. Like alcohol. In my opinion alcohol is the one you should be worried about. Maybe make it illegal to drive while drinking a beer or rum? You export millions of cigars every year. It’s not about health don’t even lie.
