Construction collapse in Juana Méndez leaves several Haitian workers dead and injured

Juana Mendez.- A tragic construction accident occurred on Tuesday in Diwo de Limina, a sector of Juana Méndez, Haiti, near the Dominican Republic border, where several Haitian workers were killed or injured after a concrete slab collapsed during a pour.

According to Dionel Germain, the northeast departmental delegate, two deaths have been officially confirmed, but search and rescue operations are ongoing amid fears that more victims may be trapped in the debris. Authorities have yet to confirm whether any of the injured transported to hospitals later succumbed to their injuries.

Videos shared on social media show both civilians and officials working together in the rescue efforts, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Juana Méndez—also known as Ouanaminthe in French and Wanament in Creole—is a border town of over 100,000 residents, located opposite Dajabón, on the Haitian side of the Masacre River. It is a vital hub for cross-border trade between the two nations.
