Amnesty International calls for justice for Haiti massacre victims

Amnesty International (AI) called for immediate protection and justice for victims of the Laboderie massacre, where 42 people were killed on September 11 by the Viv Ansanm armed coalition, about 40 kilometers north of Port-au-Prince.

César Marín, AI’s Director of Campaigns for the Americas, described the attack as a stark reminder of Haiti’s fragile state protection and urged the international community and national authorities to act. AI emphasized that the UN Security Council, the OAS, CARICOM, donor countries, and Haitian authorities must take urgent steps to address human rights violations and meet the population’s humanitarian needs, with active participation from Haitian civil society.

Marín stressed that Haitians have the right to live with dignity and security, warning that inadequate responses perpetuate impunity and expose more communities to violence. In response, the Haitian government announced measures to combat gang terror, including deploying specialized police units to affected areas.

Here’s a thought. Make the government of Haiti take action in their own country. Until Haiti is willing to step up and fix Haiti all efforts will be futile.
