Cuba.- The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) expressed gratitude on Thursday to Spain, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic for their humanitarian assistance to those affected by Hurricane Melissa, which devastated the island’s eastern region a week ago.

Since November 3, Spain has sent three shipments totaling 35 tons of supplies valued at €145,000, coordinated through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). The aid included kitchen sets, tool kits certified by the International Federation of the Red Cross, and protective work boots. Spanish Chargé d’Affaires Eduardo Sánchez described the contribution as a gesture to support Cuba’s recovery efforts.

Cuba also received 240 tons of aid from Colombia, which arrived at the Port of Santiago de Cuba, and four tons from the Dominican Republic, transported by air. The Colombian shipment, organized by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, contained food kits, hygiene items, mosquito nets, milk, water, and fuel.

Hurricane Melissa, which struck southeastern Cuba last Wednesday, caused widespread destruction, including power outages, damaged homes and infrastructure, blocked roads, communication failures, and major agricultural losses.
