US$125M port ‘will place Puerto Plata on the path to development’
Puerto Plata.- Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) director Víctor Gómez Casanova, revealed Mon. that president Danilo Medina will head groundbreaking for the reconstruction at 10am today for the Puerto Plata cargo dock and the construction of a cruise terminal.
The infrastructure includes the construction of a fishing boat dock, dredging, and collateral works to develop the port, which he affirms will convert Puerto Plata harbor into a national multipurpose port.
The project is has a cost of around US$125 million “and will place Puerto Plata on the path to development and economic progress, ensuring the future growth of the entire Northern region.”
“In fact, we already have the letters of guarantees from the five main Caribbean cruise lines, where they assure us that in the first year of operations will receive more than 650,000 cruise passengers,” the official said.
