Expert sees gloom and doom for mountains, beaches

Santo Domingo.- Bahía de las Águilas is one of the Dominican Republic’s beaches doomed to disappear in the next 50 years from the effects of climate change, National Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism Council (CNCCMDL) technical director Moisés Álvarez predicted Wed.

“I tell my environmentalist friends that we need not worry about Bahía de las Águilas because in 50 years we will not have Bahía de las Águilas,” he said.

Speaking in the conference “The Dominican Republic in the face of climate change,” Álvarez also predicts Loma Miranda’s (central) demise due to forest fires.

Though shocking, the expert said they’re not alarmist forecasts but of events shown with studies and scientific data. “The rise in sea level is affecting the entire coast of the Dominican Republic.”
