Planned airport in Dominican east loses a court round
Santo Domingo.- The Second Chamber of the Superior Administrative Court (TSA) rejected the appeal filed by the Bávaro International Airport (AIB) against the decision of the Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) that ordered the stoppage of the construction works of that infrastructure for being “harmful to the collective interest.”
The company’s lawyers had argued for the third time that IDAC resolution 024/20 violated the principles of public administration and due process, in addition to the fact that this body did not have the competence to decide on an agreement signed between the Dominican State and AIB.
They also told the court that the IDAC paralyzed the construction without expiring the deadlines for the deposit of the documentation that they had required to continue the work.
One of the reasons the appeal was rejected is not mentioned in this article. It was referenced in a report in the LISTIN of today Feb.10th. It said: “Dado que un aeropuerto privado implica al Estado la prestación de servicios que requerirán de fondos públicos” – ” Given that a private airport involves the State in providing services that will require public funds” The government is not financially prepared to provide staff, equipment, and services to support the airport. The major factor, never mentioned is the construction of a regional Air Traffic Control center to keep aircraft safely separated, track & manage aircraft flow, and guide pilots over the compact airspaces of Punta Cana, La Romana, and the proposed Bávaro International Airport. The cost of such a facility would be in the US$ millions of public funds.
Dominicans need farmland no more concrete or golf courses if they want to feed a growing population in a small and already overpopulated mountainous country.
I agree, Antonio. Also, why should we be expected to split the bill. The right decision was made in this instance. In my opinion. ??
I’m very happy for that rejection. The past government had a lot to do with that airport construction so close to Punta Cana. They were probably trying to build that airport with money stole from the people’s money. Our Dominican people. Ladronasos.
