Authorities seek pretrial detention for the mother who strangled her daughter
The measure of coercion against Yajaira Nez Batista, the mother of the 12-year-old girl discovered dead in her La Vega home, will be announced today. According to magistrate Aura Luz Garcia, chief prosecutor of La Vega, there is sufficient evidence to support the measure of coercion, so the public ministry is requesting 12 months of pretrial detention. Similarly, she stated that it has not yet been possible to confirm that the victim’s mother has a mental illness.
The autopsy on Dahiana Nuñez’s body confirms that her death was violent and that she had been dead for several hours. “The autopsy was performed on Saturday and it was determined that the cause of death was mechanical suffocation due to strangulation,” magistrate Aura Luz Garcia said. The pre-adolescent body was discovered inside her home in the Las Maras sector of Jeremias, La Vega province, last Friday.
The girl’s body was buried last Saturday after being handed over to her relatives by the National Institute of Forensic Pathology, which conducted forensic investigations on the preadolescent’s body.
