Fire is reactivated in a building on Avenida 27 de Febrero due to debris removal

This Thursday morning, the removal of debris from a collapsed building, which housed multiple businesses including the Air Max air conditioning company, caused a fire to reignite in a section of the structure. As a backhoe removes the debris, dense smoke can be seen billowing from the back of the building. The fire appears to have been reignited due to the influx of oxygen. Additionally, a mechanical shovel is attempting to remove the concrete debris.

At 9:00 am, there were no fire units present to extinguish the fire that continues to affect the basement. Yesterday, the firefighters were unable to access the basement due to the difficulty caused by the rubble of the three collapsed levels of the building.

The fire will only be fully extinguished once the debris from the collapsed structure has been removed by the backhoe. The surrounding houses have only suffered minor damage such as paint burns and smoke, and no damage has been caused to their structures.

A detailed report on the cause of the fire will be produced by investigators once they have fully investigated the situation throughout the structure.
