Santo Domingo.- After having blocked freighttransport at Boca Chica’s Caucedo Multimodal port -the country’s largest – the twotruckers unions which vie for control on Tuesday agreed not to halt traffic onthe facility’saccess road.

One of the groups in the conflict belong tothe country’s biggest truckers union (Fenatrado), while the other is formed by drivers who’ve decided to split from the organization.

Boca Chica Container Truckers Union presidentRafael Caminero accuses Fenatrado’s leaders of seeking a monopoly to haul cargoto and from the port.

He said the truckers from Boca Chica decidedto break away from Fenatrado because they’ve yet to receive the subsidized fuelthe Government provides, as well as other benefits. "Around 100,000gallons of fuel should’ve been delivered to us and they were not coming.”

Dozens of police agents were deployed alongaccess road to avert clashes between the groups.

But Fenatrado representative Joel Garcíasays the Boca Chica truckers block the sale of port entry tickets to its drivers, which enter Caucedo by the hundreds after paying RD$200 daily.
