Agreement ends lawsuit in major corruption scandal: Defendants

Santo Domingo.- Senator Felix Bautista and the economists Jaime Aristy and José A. Ayuso have agreed to put an end to the litigation at the Miami-Dade County11th Circuit Court since September 2013, in which the lawmaker demanded US$25 million in damages on on alleged slander by the economists.

The agreement signed July 26 quoted by diariolibre.com.do states that Aristy, in his book, "The dark side of Sun Land" acknowledged that "the book was written with the intent to slander or in bad faith."

The document also states that the parties recognize that "the book was prepared using the information available to date, primarily the posted in the media and with testimonials."

It also states that Aristy had recognized that subsequent to the publication, documents surfaced that “clarified inaccuracies which the book contains, and takes note of judicial decisions in the Dominican Republic."

Meanwhile Ayuso said the book’s prologue which he wrote was making use of its content.

Quoted by diariolibre.com.do, Aristy noted however that the judge has to accept the pact.
