Dominican Gov. militarizes hospital where 11 toddlers died

Santo Domingo.- Dozens of military police were deployed Monday at the Robert Reid Cabral children’s hospital to prevent incidents with the doctors who oppose the firing of its director Rosa Nieves Paulino, in the aftermath of the deaths of 11 toddlers one week ago.

The armed agents were stationed at the hospital gates and the administrative office, and halt the press from entering.

The doctors wear a black ribbon as a sign of mourning and to protest the presidential commission’s report into the probe on the deaths, which cited medical negligence.

The hospital physicians announced a meeting with Dominican Medical Guild (CMD) president Pedro Sing, and warned of a possible walkout.
