Commencement of remodeling works at the Sports Palace

Santo Domingo.- Fernando Hasbún, President of the Sports Palace Volunteers, announced that the Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace is undergoing a comprehensive remodeling and renovation process to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility that meets modern standards.

Hasbún explained that this extensive intervention encompasses both infrastructure and equipment upgrades to ensure the venue is capable of hosting high-level events. This transformation aims to position the Sports Palace as one of the primary venues for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for Santo Domingo in 2026.

Furthermore, a sponsorship agreement has been reached with the Reserve Bank to fund the remodeling of this sports infrastructure. Work has already commenced to adhere to the planned schedule for the Sports Palace’s repair process.

The renovation plans for the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace, the official headquarters of Dominican basketball, include the installation of a new modern court with accompanying equipment, air conditioning throughout the facility, refurbishment of internal offices, and the construction of a press room. Additionally, new seating will be installed in both upper and lower fan areas, the electrical system will be completely upgraded, and advanced LED lighting will be installed.

Moreover, the surrounding areas of the Sports Palace will undergo renovation, restrooms will be rebuilt, and plumbing systems will be upgraded to accommodate dressing rooms suitable for high-quality international events.
